On 20 Aug 1672, Victory and his brother Nathaniel were granted land, 30 acres on the northerly side of their father's land in Springfield, MA at Cowseek Brook with the condition they would not bother passage over their land in the times of the flood of the Old River.

On 4 Aug 1679, Victory Sikes and several other made a motion at a town meeting to have the town give them some land for a sawmill. Victory's first five children were born in Springfield, MA. On 10 Aug 1680 Victory was granted 50 acres of land in Suffield (part of Massachusetts until 1748). For running Boundaries between Springfield and Suffield in 1681, Victory was paid 3 shillings. This doesn't seem like much. Perhaps this explains why Suffield boundaries took so long to straighten out. He moved his family to Suffield in 1682. Victory was a carpenter by trade (all Suffield land grantees had to have a trade). With his brother Increase, he contracted to build a barn 52 by 24 feet, for Major Pynchon in Springfield, MA

The land grant in Suffield was 50 acres located on Springfield road which was changed to Crooked Lane and is now Mapleton Avenue. Dr. George Dimmock (Ref. 10) said that Victory lived on the north corner of North Street and Mapleton Avenue. Victory's first wife Elizabeth died during child birth shortly after moving to Suffield in 1683. Victory remarried 16 Jul 1684 to Elizabeth Granger. He had four more children by his second wife. Of his 11 children only three survived him. Jonathan, Samuel and Victory. In these days they were eager to carry on the family names. Victory was no exception. He had two Jonathan's, two John's, and two Victory's. There is a possible problem with the second John. There is only one birth date recorded in the Suffield v.r., but two death deaths, John son of Victory & Elizabeth d. 28 Apr 1687 & 19 Apr 1690, hardly enough time for the second John to be born between the two Victory's.

He held many town offices in Suffield: Sealer of the Weights and Measures, Constable, and even read the service in the old church. Victory in 1691 took James King to court because King had some clapboards that Victory had made from a tree he had cut down on the Common. King had brought the clapboards back when he found out who the owner was. The Judge found the clapboards to be Victory's but didn't fine King because King had thought the clapboards to be from his land.

As Constable, Victory had the job on 5 Apr 1697 to take William Peirce of Suffield, CT from court in Springfield to Suffield and to keep him in custody until he paid a 15 shillings fine and received a whipping on the naked body with eight stripes. Four as punishment for his profaning the Sabbath day and four stripes for his said theft.

Victory's second wife Elizabeth died 20 Mar 1691/2. He remarried a third time to the widow Judah (Pritchard) Trumble. He died 25 Apr 1708, age 59.

Titus Sikes and family moved to Vermont. Instead of settling as close together as possible, as the Farwell brothers did, the Sykes's scattered over the valley and adjoining towns as far apart as possible, as if to occupy the whole valley. After two or three generations, in 1856, there were said to be more names of Sykes on the Grand List of Dorset than any other family. There were at least ten farms owned and operated by Sykes's in 1861, based on a 1869 map of Dorset with 13 Sykes names.

The first Sykes to relocate was Titus, Jr., who settled at the upper end of West Hill Road, probably in 1772, a year before Cephas Kent established his tavern at the foot of the same road. The two families came from Suffield, and were already connected by the marriage of Cephas's son, John to Titus's sister Lucy. In the end four Kent's married four Sykes's, from Titus's family. The Sheldons, another old Dorset family, also came from Suffield.

Titus's oldest son was Sylvanus, who settled on a Dorset farm, which in 1964 was the home of Mrs. Frank L. Dillon. Ashbel settled in Rupert, VT, just up the valley from Dorset. Jacob in Pawlet, VT, also just up the valley. Israel, eventually, up the East Road where Mrs. Matthew P. Gaffney lives. Victory, eventually moved across the street where Mr. & Mrs. Leon Edgerton now lives, as of 1964.

The father of the six sons, Titus Sykes Sr., came up from Connecticut before the Revolution with some of his children, 16 in all, including two sets of twins. Two sons died as a young children. He later returned to Connecticut but finally came back to Dorset, settled, and died there in 1811. He acquired a large farm on the East Road, now Route 30, about a mile out from the village and judging from a fascinating old document signed by him in 1789, built two houses there. According to the deed; his gift to his son, Israel, half of his extensive property and what he called "the old dwelling house" and to another son, Victory, the other half of his property, and what he called "the new house", where he was living. That "old dwelling house", old in 1789, where Israel Sykes, his children and his grandchildren lived, is now Mrs. Gaffney's home. The "new house", new in 1789, is the present Leon Edgerton house, (1964). For many years, all through the 1800s, the road North from the village was known as the Sykes neighborhood, as the South end of West Road was the Kent neighborhood. Titus Sykes's will, one of the precious records in the Dorset Town Office, begins: "Titus to Israel: I, Titus Sykes of Dorset, for consideration of the love and goodwill and affection, which I, the said Titus Sykes, bear my son Israel Sykes ..... freely give, grant and assign unto him ..." Similarly worded is the section devoted to his son, Victory.

Titus Sykes after his removal to Vermont still loved the "land of steady habits" and longed to see it, and frequently visited his native town, but as his years increased, the journey became too great and tiresome for his declining strength. His sons, now and then visited his and their birthplace. On one occasion, as the two of them were about to start on their journey, they went to bid their aged Father, a good‑bye, and asked "What shell we bring from old Connecticut," he replied, "Bring some of the good old Connecticut dirt to cover these Dorset rocks with."

This is one of the family lines that started to spell there name with a 'y' instead of a 'i'. The graves of Titus and Rhoda are next to each other in the Maple Hill, Cemetery. Rhoda, who died in 1791, has on her grave stone "Wife of Titus Sikes", Titus who died in 1811, has "Titus Sykes"; There are several other examples of the Sikes spelling in the Dorset Cemetery, Titus Sikes Jr. d. 1832, Mary (Roe) Sikes wife of Sylvanus Sykes d. 1832 & Eleanor Sikes d. 1798, but most of this branch of the family preferred "Sykes".

Four of the six sons of Titus served in the Revolutionary War: Sylvanus, Titus Jr., Ashbel, and Jacob.
